about the artist

art of the carolinasBorn and raised in Spartanburg, Quinn can’t remember a time when he wan't creating art. He has always wanted to connect with people through his work, creating opportunities to make viewers think. He has worked in many media and artistic genres, from sculpture, photography, and illustration to oil, glass, and gouache.

“I aim to draw viewers into another world, away from their usual perceptual habitats, even for just a moment,” he says.

about the work

Quinn says, “Sometimes it’s not even ‘seeing’ it but the sensing of it that makes me want to paint something—maybe I see something that not everyone else does.”

Often a phrase comes to Quinn’s mind that instantly generates a narrative, and from that, an image is born from the layers of realistic fiction, artful truth, and the subconscious.

working methods

"I started drawing at a very early age and have worked in many different styles and techniques. At present I work in a highly "realistic" manner that clearly and accurately delineates the forms of objects in the compositions I find or arrange. When I paint these scenes (I generally use gouache on smooth coldpress illustration board) I push any notion of reality aside because the colors I select enhance or complement the object's natural color. Below are images that I photographed in a laundromat and and the original gouache paintings that were inspired by these images."
