Artist’s Statement

I pray for guidance in my work. This guidance, at its best, helps me express the wordlessness of human experience, things such as love and forgiveness. Sometimes the information comes to me in a dream, an event, or a premonition only to be understood later.

My work is hand-built and sculptural. I am not locked into any particular method, and that freedom allows the material (mostly clay) to dictate where the work goes. It is always an exciting and interesting process, because I can sense that the image is already in the clay and, at the proper time, it is revealed.

ABOUT MY FOUNTAINS

Inspired by the beautiful flowers of the Western North Carolina Foothills, my fountains are unique and original. Each one is hand built of ceramic material, stoneware or porcelain or both and fired several times. No two are exactly alike. I enjoy the challenge of building them.
