"I
have one longing only: to grasp what is hidden behind appearances. What
is my work? To let the mind fall silent that I may hear the invisible
calling." - Niko Kazantzakis
Artist’s Statement
I am motivated to paint by a love of the process; dancing with pigment and line to unheard rhythms…..the invisible life brought to the surface as I work intuitively with line, paint, and scribbles; from order to chaos and back again.
Bio
Born in the mountains of West Virginia, the formative years were spent in Daytona Beach, Florida, developing a strong connection to the world of sea, sand, and all of nature.
After attending Florida State University, receiving a B.A. degree in fine art and commercial art, studied painting and drawing at Instituto de Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, later coming under the influence of Abstract Expressionism, launching a challenging journey of discovery.
During the years 2006-2008 the shores of the Tyhrrenean Sea in Southern Italy became home, soaking up the culture, sea and sky; returning in 2008 to Tryon, NC. continuing to explore the mysteries of painting, and teaching classes in water media at The Tryon Fine Arts Center and at Isothermal Community College.
Paintings and drawings have won top awards in national and international competitions, and others are in private and public collections in The United States and Italy; in the permanent collection of the Fort Lauderdale, Florida City Hall, and The Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, North Carolina.
