ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ann Crenshaw was born in Florence, South Carolina. She is a graduate of Converse College and has lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina since then.

"I paint because it is fun to try to solve visual puzzles. How do you take what you see and put it on a flat surface and then take the flat surface and make it look like you can reach into it? I am a constantly interested student of whatever is around me. I have taken several classes from many wonderful teachers and I am always impressed by how their knowledge and techniques with such giving spirits. I have always felt welcomed and accepted on any skill level and I love the sharing freedom of a classroom of workshop students. I highly recommend taking a workshop to see how paintings evolve. I am still a learner and I hope that I always will be.

I do not have a specialized focus on landscapes or still life or figurative work. There is so much out there that I can't settle down just now. The main thing that painting has taught me, is to look at something and then look again. What color is that shadow? What is the relationship between apples and oranges?

This is a wonderful world. I love to look more closely at it"!
